Welcome to the Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library!
There are two locations of the Osaka Prefectural Library : the Central
Library and the Nakanoshima Library.
The Central Library covers general areas, while the Nakanoshima Library covers materials relating to Osaka, classics, and business.
Both are integrated to offer unified services.

1. THE NAKANOSHIMA LIBRARY (中之島図書館)

About 300m to the northeast(Exit #1)form Yodoyabashi Station on the Keihan Line or Midosuji Line subway.
About 300m from Oebashi Station and Naniwabashi Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line.

We offer Internet and online database access, as well as use of the latest
information on CD-ROMs and other electronic media, free of charge.
Wide range of materials on Osaka (大阪に関するあらゆる資料を提供します)
We have books in a wide range of fields, including the literature, history, politics, and economy of Osaka. We also respond to inquiries on related information.
Classics and related materials (古典籍とこれに関する資料を提供します)
We have a collection of classics including Japanese, Chinese, and Korean works, as well as studies of these classics. We also respond to inquiries on related information.

[ Features of the Central Library ]
- This general library has some fields including humanities, social and natural sciences, and children's literature.
- You'll also find up-to-date information on audio-visual materials, CD-ROMs,
and other electronic media.
- There are also a number of person-to-person read-aloud rooms.

- Subway Midosuji Line /Keihan Line to Yodoyabashi Station, take (Exit #1) northeast about 300 m.
Keihan Nakanoshima Line to Oebashi Station or Naniwabashi Station, take about 300m.
On the east side of the Osaka City Hall.

- Subway Chuo line (Kintetsu Keihanna line) to Aramoto station, take (exit 1) northwest about 400 m

★ GENERAL SERVICES INFORMATION (各種サービス)
1. OBTAINING A LIBRARY CARD (利用者登録)
- You need a library card to borrow books.
- We issue library cards to people living, working, or going to school in the Kinki district. To receive a library card, bring a piece of identification showing your name, address and the date of your birth and fill out an application form.
- The library card is valid for 3 years. It can also be used at the Osaka Prefectural Central Library.
- Please notify the library of any address change or lost card, immediately.
2. TAKING OUT BOOKS (本を借りるには・・・)
- Take the books, along with your library card, to the counter.
- You may borrow up to 8 books ( together with the Central Library ) at a time for a period of 3 weeks.
- Color slips put into books may be presented at the Exit
Desk, when you leave this library.
- You may renew books once, by telephone, if you call within the 3-week loan period. However, you may not renew books that have been reserved.
Note: Last order to take books from the stocks is until 30 minutes before closing.
3. RESERVING BOOKS (本を予約するには・・・)
- If the book you are looking for is not currently in the stacks, you may
reserve it.
- Books not contained in this library can be ordered from other libraries. For details, inquire at the library counter of at Interlibrary Loan Room.
[ Getting materials from the Central Library ] (中央図書館からの取り寄せ)
- If you want to see the books which are located at the
Osaka Prefectural Central Library, order us them, and you
can get them in 2 or 3 days at the Nakanoshima Library.
- But there are some materials which can not be transferred; Periodicals,
Newspapers, some Reference books and Audio-Visual materials (except for
CD).
- We'll notify you by phone as soon as the books are
transferred.
- Please go to the Osaka Prefectural Central Library directly, if you want
to get them immediately.
4. RETURNING BOOKS (本を返すときは・・・)
- During library hours, return books to the counter.
- Outside of library hours, put books in the Bookdrop (located on the south side in the building next to the employee entrance). Put audio-visual materials in the Audio-Visual Materials Bookdrop.
- A library card is unnecessary for returning.
- Library books can be returned to the both Central &
Nakanoshima Library.
- You can postpone the due date only one time by phoning,
when the books are not overdue and no one else is waiting
for them.
5. ASSISTANCE FINDING BOOKS (しらべものをするときは・・・)
- Ask one of the library staff. They will be happy to help you find the book or information you're looking for.
- We also take written or telephone inquiries.
6. COPYING AND PRINTING OUT MATERIALS (本を複写するには・・・)
- You may only copy materials belonging to the Osaka Prefectural Library. Please abide by copyright laws.
- Fill out an application form and give it to one of the library staff. You
can also apply it on the library home pages.
- Requests for copies can be made up until 30 minutes before closing time.

7. USING THE INTERNET AND DATABASES (インターネットやデータベースを利用するには・・・)
- You can use the Internet, online databases, CD-ROMs, and other electronic media in the Digital Resource Room on the 3rd floor.
- You need your library card or a piece of identification.
- You may print out data from some CD-ROMs and other electronic media. Ask
at the counter for details.
Note: Last admission is until 30 minutes before closing.
8. FOR SPECIAL NEEDS LIBRARY PATRONS (からだの不自由な方へ・・・)
- We have fax services to assist those who have trouble hearing or speaking.
- If you are coming to the library by wheelchair, please use the employee
entrance on the south side of the building.
- For details on these and other related matters, inquire at Interlibrary
Loan Room.
