THE OSAKA PREFECTURAL NAKANOSHIMA LIBRARY
Welcome to the Osaka PrefecturalNakanoshima Library
There are two locations of the Osaka Prefectural Library: the Central Library and the Nakanoshima Library.
The Central Library covers general areas, while the Nakanoshima Library covers materials relating to Osaka, classics, and business. Both are integrated to offer unfiled services.

[Features of the Nakanoshima Library]
Established in 1904, the Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library has strived to offer citizens a wide range of convenient and valuable information services.
Business support services
•Providing business-related books and magazines.
•Handling business-related inquiries (for surveys and consultation).
•Introducing library patrons to organizations that possess materials not in the Osaka Prefectural Library.
Information on electronic media
We offer online database access, as well as use of the latest information on CD-ROMs and other electronic media, all free of charge.
Wide range of materials on Osaka
We have books in a wide range of fields, including the literature, history, politics, and economy of Osaka. We also respond to inquiries on related information.
Classics and related materials
We have a collection of classics including Japanese, Chinese, and Korean works, as well as materials related to these classics. We also respond to inquiries on related information.
■Obtaining a library card
•You need a library card to borrow books.
•We issue library cards at the Registration counter to people living, working, or going to school in the Kinki district. To receive a library card, bring a piece of identification showing your name, address and the date of your birth and fill out an application form.
•The library card is valid for 3 years. It can also be used at the Osaka Prefectural Central Library.
■Taking out books
•Take the books, along with your library card, to the counter.
•You may borrow up to 8 books for a period of 3 weeks.
•You may renew books once, by telephone, if you call within the 3-week loan period. However, you may not renew books that have been reserved. If you have the “password” of the library, you can renew books by the website. For details, inquire at the Registration counter.
Note: Last order to take books from the stocks is until 30 minutes before closing.
•If the book you are looking for is not currently in the stacks, you may reserve it.
•Books not contained in this library can be ordered from other libraries. For details, inquire at the Information counter or at Interlibrary Loan Room.
•During library hours, return books to the counter.
•Outside of library hours, put books in the Bookdrop (located on the south side of the building next to the employee entrance). Put audio-visual materials in the Audio-Visual Materials Bookdrop.
■Assistance finding books
•Ask one of the library staff. They will be happy to help you find the book or information you’re looking for.
•We also take written or telephone inquiries.
■Copying and printing out materials
•You may only copy materials belonging to the Osaka Prefectural Library. Please abide by copyright laws.
•Fill out an application form and give it to one of the library staff.
•Requests for copies can be made up until 30 minutes before closing time.

There are materials that cannot be copied by yourself.
You get photocopies from microfilm later.
You can also apply for copying on the library website. For details, inquire at the copying room or check out the website.
■Using the Internet and databases
•You can use the online databases, CD-ROMs, and other electronic media in the Digital Resource Room on the 2nd floor.
•You may print out data from some CD-ROMs and other electronic media. Ask at the counter for details.
Note: Last admission is until 30 minutes before closing.
■For special needs library patrons
•We have fax services to assist those who have trouble hearing or speaking.
A few simple rules
•Take good care of books.
•Do not disturb other library patrons.
•Do not come to the library by car and bicycle since there is no parking lot.

This general library has some fields including humanities, social and natural sciences, and children’s literature.
