- Classical books/documents such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean books and related materials are stored and offered.

To Obtain a Library Card
- You need a library card (valid for 3 years) to borrow materials from the library .The library card can also be used at the Osaka Prefectural Central Library.
- Library cards are issued to residents of Osaka Prefecture, those who commute or go to school in Osaka Prefecture, or live in Kinki area.
- To obtain a library card, please bring your ID card to comfirm your name, current address and birth date and register at the Pick-up & Return Counter after filling an application form.
- Procedures to register, update and re-issue the card is limited to the person himself/herself who will use the library.
- You can display the barcode of the library card on your mobile device such as a smartphone. For details, please visit our website.
To Borrow Materials from the Library
- Please bring the materials (books etc.) you wish to borrow, along with your library card, or the barcode of the library card on your mobile device, to the Pickup & Return Counter.
- You can borrow from both libraries (the Central Library and Nakanoshima Library) up to a total of 12 books for a period of 3 weeks.
- The loan period of borrowed materials, except for reserved items, can be extended once by request via telephone or online.

When you cannot find the materials you are looking for
- You can reserve materials which are currently lent out and not available.
- Materials which are not owned by the library can be borrowed from other libraries. (Interlibrary Loan Service)
- For detailed information, ask at the Pick-up & Return Counter or the Interlibrary Loan Service Room.
To Return Materials
- When the library is open, please return materials to the Pick-up & Return Counter.
- When the library is closed, please use Bookdrop.
- Please return audio visual materials to the audio-visual item return box.
- Borrowed items can be returned by mail or delivery service. Please pay the postage or delivery fee.
To Search for Materials
- Library staff members will assist you in finding books and information. Please feel free to ask the library staff.
- Inquiries are accepted by telephone, letters, facsimile and e-Reference. For details on “e-Reference”, please visit the following website.

To Use Databases
- Materials on various online databases and CD-ROMs etc. are available in the Digital Resource Room.
- Some materials can be printed. For details, please ask the library staff at the Digital Resource Room.
Support for Persons with Disabilities
- The library offers consultation services via facsimile etc. for users with difficulties in hearing and speaking. For details, please ask the library staff at the Interlibrary Loan Service Room.
Photocopy Services
- Photocopying serivices are available for the materials in the Osaka Prefectual Library collection.
- All photocopying is subject to copyright laws and other restrictions.
- Enter the necessary information on the photocopy request form and submit it to the library staff.
- Note: There are some materials which may not be copied due to the condition of the material.
- We also offer a postal photocopy service*. Please apply by post, FAX or online at our website.

Note* : The postal photocopy service fee includes a copying fee (staff assisted fee), postage (or shipping fee), 100 yen shipping charge (another 100 yen are added every 50 sheets) and a correspondence fee (when an advance notice by postcard is needed).
Note** : The photocopy fee for digitalized materials (CD-ROM/DVD-ROM) made available deu to the deterioration of paper-based library materials is the same as the fee for the library materials in paper form.
Note*** : Photocopies from the “Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries” provided by the National Diet Library (NDL).
Library Rules
- Please handle books, materials and equipment carefully. Should any materials be damaged (by water, for example) or lost, the user may be liable for charges incurred to replace or repair the item.
- If you have lost/damaged materials, please report to the library staff at the Interlibrary Loan Service Room.
- Please do not disturb other users of the library.
- There is no parking lot for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, please do not use a car/bicycle to visit the library.
Osaka Prefectural Central Library
The Central Library is a general library which houses a wide range of materials on humanities, social science, natural science, and children’s books. Electronic media such as CD-ROMs and a reading service for persons with visual impairments are available.
